What is it? A pocket guide to 'over 500 churches, past and present'

What's it like? To the NE of Thornham Park and representing a very tiny village, this little thatched church has a nave, chancel and low W tower with pyramidical roof, built up against what seems to be the west wall of a Saxon church. (Thornham Parva)

What's good about it? This is a handy little volume, with as much detail as Pevsner and more churches than Cautley, for a tiny price.

What's bad about it? because so much of it is culled from other books, particularly the two above, it is shot full of out of date information and complete inaccuracies, some of them serious. Several more modern churches are missing. A good companion for the starter, made completely redundant by Mortlock (or even Pevsner).

Overall rating: 3/5
