| Title: Ask the
Fellows who Cut the Hay Author: George Ewart Evans Date published: 1965 Status: in print Price: GBP 12.99 What is it? An evocation of early 20th century life in the village of Blaxhall, by the author of The Pattern under the Plough. What's good about it? Evans was village schoolmaster, and writes about the village characters he used to talk with. He builds up a convincing picture of the dynamics and psychodrama of an English rural parish on the eve of great change. What's bad about it? Unless you have a particular interest in the Blaxhall area, The Pattern under the Plough is still probably a better way into Evans' work.
