Mass

Mass: This is probably the most unusual of the eight Great Glemham panels, because seven sacrament fonts usually depict the Eucharist with the priest facing outwards, holding up the host in an act of consecration. An altar behind has a chalice standing on it, and the acolyte kneels beside the priest. The communicant holds a houseling cloth, to stop crumbs of the Blessed Sacrament falling to the floor. Who is the figure behind him? Another communicant? But he seems to wear a halo, and thus might represent the real presence of Christ. Note the top of the reredos behind the altar.
