Flushwork. The medieval use of knapped flints to make intricate designs on the exterior of churches. Considered to have reached the height of its art in Suffolk and Norfolk, perhaps its greatest example is Southwold. Revived in the late 19th century under the influence of the Oxford Movement, an excellent Victorian example is Ipswich St Mary le Tower.
